A combined Moxa and Tui Na session offers your body genuine warmth, rest, and the kind of nourishment that goes deeper than the surface.
Moxa: the healing power of warmth
Moxibustion or moxa is one of the oldest therapeutic practices within Chinese Medicine. It involves the careful burning of dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near specific points and areas of the body to generate a deep, penetrating warmth that supports circulation, Yang energy, and encourages the smooth flow of Qi and blood.
In classical Chinese Medicine, warmth is understood as the foundation of life itself. Where warmth flows freely, so does vitality. Circulation moves, energy rises, and the body finds its natural rhythm. Where cold takes hold, things begin to slow, contract, and deplete. Unlike surface heat such as a hot water bottle or heated blanket, the warmth from moxa is experienced as reaching much deeper — settling into the tissues, the meridians, and the energetic layers of the body in a way that feels genuinely nourishing.
Moxa is traditionally associated with supporting conditions involving cold, deficiency, or stagnation — where the body needs building up rather than clearing out.
What is Tui na massage?
Tui na (推拿) is among the most ancient branches of Chinese Medicine — a skilled, hands-on therapy that engages the body’s meridian network to support the free movement of Qi and Blood. Using techniques including pressing, kneading, rolling, and targeted acupressure, Tui na works through areas of holding, stagnation, and restriction held within the physical body.
Rather than simply working on the surface, Tui na is intentional and directional — following the body’s own intelligence to create genuine change. It can bring deep settling to the nervous system alongside real physical release, making it a natural complement to Moxa within an integrated session.
Meet Cristina Arcila...
I'm Cristina — a Reiki Master, undergraduate in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, yoga instructor, and EFT practitioner, based in Byron Bay. My practice is rooted in classical principles, and moxibustion has become one of the modalities I return to most for its profound ability to warm, nourish, and restore.
I have a particular passion for supporting women and mothers in reconnecting with their own wellbeing.
The nourishing moment you deserve
Tui Na massage and moxibustion woven together create something special — structured manual therapy meeting targeted warmth to support circulation, vitality, and deep restoration. Grounding and nourishing in equal measure, the combination works on both the physical and energetic body simultaneously, addressing what neither modality could fully reach alone.
When combined with Tui Na, the two modalities work beautifully — Tui Na moves and releases, while moxa warms and nourishes.
